About this blog: This blog mostly focuses on social media use in the tourism industry but also reflects my many interests including travel, photography, music and animals.

About Anne Hornyak:

Tourism professional. Social media strategist. Amateur photographer. Washed-up flute rockstar. Owner to 2 birddogs. #tourismchat cofounder. Short-sentence writer. Hashtag abuser.

Tourism industry twitterer and #tourismchat cofounder: Previous to working as a Social Media Strategist, Anne Hornyak was the Executive Director of Chicago Plus: Chicagoland Regional Tourism Development Office. Anne has had great success maintaining and coaching twitter and other social media accounts for CVBs (Convention and Visitors Bureaus). One of Anne’s proudest achievements is being a cofounder of #tourismchat, a twitter chat focusing on social media in the tourism industry. The chats are held on every other Thursday at 2pm CST. The chat schedule can be found on the #tourismchat Facebook page. More behind the scenes information and history about the chat can be found in this Tourism Tech post.

Amateur Photographer: Inheriting the love of photography from her father, Anne enjoys shooting scenic photography, especially while traveling. Her weapon: a Canon XSi.

Washed-up Flute Rockstar: Anne, owner and instructor of First Chair Flute Studio, has taught flute lessons for 14 years. She received her Master’s of Music Degree (2001) at The University of Akron and her Bachelor’s of Music Degree (1999) at Eastern Illinois University. Anne currently maintains a small studio in Northwest Indiana.

Owner to 2 birddogs: Millie and Chip have a life full of naps and playtime. Dealing with many health issues these past few years, Millie (springer spaniel, 9yrs) introduced Anne to the world of canine nutrition and holistic care. Chip (english setter mix, 4yrs) introduced her to obedience training and dog rescues. As a volunteer of the Illinois Birddog Rescue, Anne helps with their social media and dog transports. In March 2011, sweet Daisy (english pointer, 7 yrs) passed away from histiocytic sarcoma.
